The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says 22 million people in Ethiopia are in need of humanitarian assistance in the coming fiscal year.

The number of people in need of humanitarian assistance in different parts of Ethiopia has increased, according to a report released by the organization.

The number of people waiting for life-saving food assistance in Tigray, Amhara and Afar regions has increased from 8.1 million in August to 9.4 million in September this year, according to the World Food Program.

As a result of the war, the number of people in need of assistance in the Amhara region increased to 3.7 million at a time.

Due to the war and drought, the number of people in Ethiopia will be increased by 2022, Ocha said.

"Conflicts, droughts, locusts and diseases combined have increased the number of people who are making a living," the report said.

By 2022, Ocha plans to provide assistance to 22.3 citizens.

"I do not say that drones are not a reason for us to return to Tigray," said General Tsadqan

Drought-affected regions, including drought-stricken areas of eastern and southern Ethiopia, also need urgent assistance.

"Drought in Oromia and Somali regions is a serious concern," Ocha said in a statement.

According to the organization's assessment of malnutrition, the problem in southern and eastern Ethiopia has reached Level 3 and Level 4.

This is mainly due to the lack of rain.

Farmers and pastoralists are facing water shortages. Their cattle are also in danger. Declining income is another problem.

According to the Ethiopian Statistics Agency, In these areas, cattle prices are lower than ever, and residents are facing severe financial hardship.

"Cattle herds are also declining. Cattle are dying faster and moving to drought-stricken areas," he said.

According to the United Nations, preparations should be made to provide assistance in drought-prone areas.

The World Food Program quoted Somali Regional State President Mustafa Omar as saying: Over the next three months, 3.3 million people will be at risk of malnutrition.

Currently 2.2 million people are facing water shortages. Another 173,000 children are malnourished.

He added that assistance will be provided mainly to children under five years of age and pregnant women.

About four million people have been displaced throughout Ethiopia. That includes 1.5 million people displaced this year.

According to Ocha, about 60 percent of the displaced are sheltered in outlying communities.

"Most people have been displaced by the conflict. The number of IDPs has increased since 2.7 million by mid-2021. Many have been displaced since October in western Tigray," the agency said.

According to the October survey, more than 10,000 people have been sheltered in southwestern Tigray. It is feared that the number will increase.

He noted that most of the displaced were women, children, the elderly, and the sick.

Since September, 542,000 people have been displaced from Amhara and 255,000 from Afar.

Ocha has spent $ 614 million to deliver aid in northern Ethiopia, which is not enough for the budget, the organization said.

He also called on donors to provide financial assistance for his humanitarian work.
